IMDEA SoftwareNew Building
IMDEA Software will be located in a new building with specific infrastructures for supporting the research activities of the Institute in the UPM Science and Technology Park in Montegancedo, Boadilla del Monte, Madrid, just a few meters away from UPM's School of Computer Science. To this end a 7,500 m2 plot was assigned early in 2008 to the Institute within the Montegancedo park. A call for design ideas for the building was published in early 2008. Responses from six renowned architects were received. In November 2008, a committee with representation from IMDEA Software staff, the Madrid Regional Government, and external experts decided on the winning design, and awarded as well the following prizes for second and third place:
The final design of the building by Estudio Lamela has evolved in close consultation with researchers from IMDEA Software, to ensure the maximum adherence to the scientific needs of the Institute. The construction of the building is currently under way, and completion is expected for the second half of 2011. Meanwhile, IMDEA Software will continue using the temporary location within UPM's School of Computer Science. The figures shown in this page illustrate the new building as well as a computer-generated image of the planned location of the building on a campus aerial view.
The Montegancedo Science and Technology ParkThe UPM Science and Technology Park in Montegancedo is a 500,000 m2 facility aimed at concentrating research and development in information technology, as well as aerospace and biotechnology.
This facility is the only campus selected as Campus of Excellence in Research and Technology Transfer in the area of Information Technology by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, in the first such call, among 44 projects in different areas from 45 different universities. It already includes ten buildings hosting the following centers:
Other centers already in construction or planned for the campus include (in addition to IMDEA Software):
