Dear everyone,
Is there a way to have a graphical interface for the ciao prolog program? I don’t use the terminal very often so I’m struggling with getting to know how to use it. Is there a guide of shortcuts for the terminal?
Regards, Quico
Hi Quico, the best way to have a graphical interface for ciao is with emacs https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/? . The installation of emacs is quite simple and if I remember well the ciao installation edits emac's init.el file to use it as an interface.
I hope you find this useful, feel free to ask ;)

Dear Quico,
there are plugins for different IDEs but the "native", recommended one is Emacs (the environment I use in the classes). Have you used Emacs before? You can find instructions for installing Ciao with Emacs as graphical environment in the Ciao web page and in the installation instructions that I left in the course web site:
https://wp.software.imdea.org/cbc/
look for "Tools", "Ciao". The easiest thing is probably to follow the "cheat sheet" that I mentioned there.
As far as commands in the top level, check out the "slides on the basic use of a logic and constraint programming system."
What operating system are you using?
Cheers,
Manuel

Thanks for the advice people, I’ll try to install the emacs graphical interface. I thought emacs was only available for the terminal…

Yes, Emacs is graphical (although it also works just fine in a terminal, that is very cool). I was asking about the operating system because if it is windows you have to make sure you have the Windows Subsystem for Linux and (at least for now, until MSoft incorporates in their normal windows versions functionality that they have currently in Beta) an X server. It is all in the instructions. Cheers, --Manuel
