PhD in Computer Security

Candidates are invited to apply for a PhD position in computer security at the IMDEA Software Institute, Madrid, Spain. The position will be funded by a FPI fellowship from the Spanish national government through the ESPADA project.

Selected candidates will work with Dr. Juan Caballero on the design, implementation, and evaluation of novel techniques for evaluating the security of existing data protections. The focus will be on developing novel defenses against data-compromising malware. The research may cover both server-side and client-side data protections and will include quantitative evaluations of the protections.

The PhD research will involve a combination of data collection, data analysis, and prototype development.

Who should apply?

Ideal candidates have earned (or are in their last year of) a Master’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, have a strong commitment to research, are passionate about computer security, enjoy coding, and have some experience and interest in the research area.

Good programming and tool building skills are required. Good command of English both spoken and written is also required.

Candidates will be evaluated following the terms set by the FPI call: academic and scientific track-record, mobility and internalization, and the suitability of the candidate to the research activities to be carried out.

Dates

The position will cover the whole duration of the doctoral studies. The ideal starting period is November 2023 with some flexibility.
