Last week, in line with the soft skills courses, the IMDEA Software Institute organized a social media event for researchers which was attended by both researchers and management staff.
The workshop, given by Mike Young, focused on aspects related to how to use social media to increase impact, how to engage with your peers and access opportunities in both academia and industry using mainly LinkedIn and X (or alternatives to X such as Mastodon and Bluesky) platforms as professional tools.
They gained practical tips on how to communicate effectively on the platforms; meet the right people and involve others in their research process; obtain and share content from IMDEA Software and collaborating partners; and maintain a sustainable social networking routine that fits into their workday.
Mike divided the morning of the workshop into sessions of lectures, discussions and exercises so that attendees could implement what they had learned.
