Applications are invited to apply for a PhD position in computer security at the IMDEA Software Institute, Madrid, Spain. Selected candidates will work with Dr. Juan Caballero on developing novel techniques for security testing of spacecraft systems. The candidate will develop novel security testing techniques to identify vulnerabilities in spacecraft software, as well as in the protocols used for spacecraft communication. The research will focus on software and network security and will involve a combination of static analysis, dynamic analysis, and protocol analysis techniques. The research will be application-focused and will involve a combination of data collection, prototype development, and empirical evaluation.
Ideal candidates have earned (or are in their last year of) a Master’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, have a strong commitment to research, are passionate about computer security, software engineering, space systems, enjoy coding, and have some experience and interest in at least one of the techniques and application areas described above.
Good programming and tool building skills are required. Successful candidates will have experience developing software (Python, C/C++), with security testing techniques (e.g., penetration testing, vulnerabilities, exploits), and are comfortable with working on Linux. Good command of English both spoken and written is also required.
