Description
The IMDEA Software Institute is seeking a Chief Network Engineer to coordinate
and manage the technical aspects of the REDIMadrid, MadQCI, and EuroQCI
networks.
Our customers are universities and research centers. The candidate will work
with advanced networks and with customers with extensive knowledge of a CORE
operator network.

Tasks
The tasks to be carried out will be, among others:
- Coordination of the technical tasks to be undertaken to maintain the network
in an optimal state of use. This includes establishing and maintaining the
configuration of routers and other equipment, as well as proactive management
to prevent incidents and outages.
- Technical assessment of the different existing alternatives that can be
undertaken in the network so that it can provide a leading service to the
research community in the region. The growing traffic needs mean that the
equipment requires constant updates and planning.
- Management of the group of people assigned to the network.
- Technical support to universities on issues related to network connections,
using email, slack channels and thematic workshops and 24/7 management of
level 2/3 incidents escalated by the outsourcing service.
- Measurement and planning of IP, optical and security equipment needs for the
different network connections and services.
- Security services and mitigation of distributed denial of service attacks at
the network perimeter.
- Technical coordination with RedIRIS for the maintenance and continuous
expansion of connectivity with RedIRIS, GEANT and the rest of the Internet.
- Technical coordination in MadQCI/EuroQCI network, quantum communications
network of the Madrid region.
- Monitoring of the material execution of all fiber and equipment bids.
- Technical assessment to deploy Software-Driven Networking (SDN) and the
software needed to move towards “Self-Driving Networks”.
Requirements
Candidates should meet the following requirements:
- M.Sc. or B.Sc. degree in Telecommunications.
- Be in possession of JNCIP-SP certificate or provide evidence of having
achieved it.
- At least 20 years of proven experience as a network engineer, 8 of them as a
team leader.
- Proven experience in managing a telecommunication network, IP network
(Juniper and CISCO) and optics communication (DWDM, CIENA and ADVA).
- Good knowledge in Routing Protocols (BGP4, PIM-SM, MP-BGP, MSDP, eVPN,
L3VPN….) IP/MPLS networks and segment routing.
- Proven experience in writing technical requirements and participating in
public tenders from the awarding authority side.
- Proven experience in security technologies in service provider environments,
like anti-DDoS technologies (Genie, Corero and Arbor).
- Knowledge in version control (GIT, SVN) and LaTeX typesetting.
- Knowledge in SDN (Software Defined Network) in the service provider environment.
- Knowledge of quantum cryptography in QKD technologies.
- Proven experience in designing quantum networks to integrate quantum
equipment such as IDQ, Toshiba or Huawei.
- Fluent in English and Spanish speaking, writing, and reading.
Desirable qualifications
Besides the expected qualifications, additional capabilities / knowledge will be a plus:
- Knowledge of Linux/Unix environments, scripting languages, automating tools,
data interchange formats and familiarity with Docker / Kubernetes and Virtual
Machines administration (KVM).
- Knowledge in white boxes IP in service provider environment.
- Ability to meet strict deadlines and work under pressure.
- Capable team player.
