Senior Accountant

The IMDEA Software Institute seeks to hire a Senior Accountant to manage all financial transactions, from fixed payments and variable expenses to bank deposits and budgets. The responsibilities include bookkeeping, auditing financial documents and procedures, reconciling bank statements, coordinating tax payments and returns, and managing the closing of accounts including grants allocation to profit and loss accounts. Ultimately, the candidate will provide the Institute with accurate quantitative information on financial position, liquidity and cash, while ensuring compliance with all tax regulations.

The tasks to be carried out will be, among others:

• Managing accounting transactions.
• Capital assets reconciliations.
• Preparing budget forecasts.
• Publishing financial statements in time.
• Handling monthly, quarterly, and annual closings.
• Reconciling accounts payable and receivable.
• Ensuring timely bank payments.
• Computing taxes and supervise tax returns.
• Preparing balance sheets and profit/loss statements.
• Coordinating the annual financial audits.
• Providing support with research project financial audits.
• Establishing and enforcing proper accounting methods, policies and principles.

Requirements

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

• M.Sc. or B.Sc. degree in Economics or Business Administration.
• At least 5 years of experience as an accountant in a non-profit research center.
• Experience in accounting of publicly funded project grants.
• Deep knowledge of Spanish accounting and fiscal laws.
• Fluent in English speaking, writing, and reading.
• Fluent in Spanish speaking, writing, and reading.
• Expert user of Excel spreadsheets.
• Expert user of Microsoft Dynamics NAV / Navision software.

The following are desirable qualifications:

• Experience working in a public entity.
• Experience using Subversion and/or Git repositories.
• Ability to meet strict deadlines and work under pressure.
• Capable team player.
