On Thursday, June 26, the IMDEA Software Institute held a new edition of its now well-established annual event, the “My I[M]DEA Software: Poster Competition”. The competition aims to promote scientific communication among interns, PhD students, and other members of the institute.

A total of 14 posters were presented this year. Participants from IMDEA Software included: Konstantinos Papaioannou, Louis Rustenholz, Ines Cipullo, Alessio Ferrarini, Giannis Roumpos, Andrea Iannetta, Diego Castejón Molina, Colin Rothgang, Daniel Jurjo, Kevin van Liebergen, Daud Ahmed and Panagiotis Georgios Pennas. The competition also welcomed external contributions from Arivarasan Karmegam and Junlang Wang, PhD students at IMDEA Networks.

Attendees had the opportunity to explore a wide range of innovative research projects, each accompanied by a lightning talk: a one-minute oral presentation in which participants summarized the core ideas of their work.

Among the audience were also members of the Association for Computing Machinery at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (ACM-UPM) and researchers from IMDEA Networks, adding further value to the inter-institutional networking environment.

This year’s jury faced a particularly tough decision and ultimately awarded two first prizes ex aequo: one to Kevin van Liebergen for his poster “A Framework for Clustering Scams”, and another to Giannis Roumpos for “Advancing Workload Management: Challenges in Time Series Similarity”. The third prize went to Diego Castejón for his poster “Minimizing Smart Contract Data Exposure With Cryptographic Protocols”.

The Best Lightning Talk Award, voted by the audience, was given to Louis Rustenholz, whose presentation was praised for clearly communicating the key aspects of his research.

Once again, the “My I[M]DEA Software: Poster Competition” fulfilled its dual purpose: highlighting the cutting-edge research conducted at the institute and encouraging future internal collaborations. It also served as a valuable opportunity for early-career researchers to gain experience in scientific outreach and prepare for future conferences.
