On July 1st, Manuel Carro, Director of the IMDEA Software Institute, participated in the meeting of the SOMMa Alliance, held in the Community of Madrid. The event brought together the heads of leading research centers and units accredited with the Severo Ochoa and María de Maeztu excellence distinctions.
The SOMMa Alliance (Severo Ochoa – María de Maeztu) aims to strengthen the institutional capabilities of public and non-profit private research centers that stand out for their international scientific leadership. Through this initiative, SOMMa promotes strategic development, collaboration, and the scientific and socio-economic impact of research in Spain.
The meeting gathered representatives from SOMMa centers based in the Community of Madrid, one of the regions with the highest concentration of excellence institutions in the country. In total, the region is home to one-quarter of all Severo Ochoa centers and four of the María de Maeztu units recognized nationally.
IMDEA Software was awarded the María de Maeztu Center of Excellence distinction in 2025, which will remain in effect until 2031. During this period, the institute will focus on reinforcing its scientific program, strengthening internal structures, and promoting new international collaborations.
