The EuroSys conference is the premier European venue for cutting-edge research in computer systems, spanning operating systems, cloud and distributed systems, security, and systems for machine learning. The research group led by Prof. Thaleia Dimitra Doudali at the IMDEA Software Institute, once again had a strong presence at the conference, contributing through research presentations, organizational leadership, and service to the scientific community.
Research Contributions
At the EuroMLSys workshop, Konstantinos Papaioannou presented his work titled “Dealing with the Elephant in the KV Cache: Video Frame Sampling for Multimodal LLM Inference”. His talk addressed critical performance and memory challenges in multimodal large language model inference, particularly for video-based inputs, and sparked active discussion among workshop participants. The paper can be read here.
At the EuroSys Doctoral Workshop, Giannis Roumpos shared an overview of his ongoing dissertation on “Adaptive ML-Driven Resource Management for Diverse Cloud Workloads”, focusing on the practical and effective use of machine learning techniques in cloud resource management systems. Panagiotis Pennas, co-advised by Thaleia Dimitra Doudali and Marco Guarnieri, presented his ongoing disseration on “Secure and Performance-Aware Serving Systems for Large Language Models”, which explores how to balance strong security guarantees with high-performance inference in modern LLM serving systems.
Service to the Research Community
Beyond their research contributions, IMDEA Software researchers played important service and leadership roles at EuroSys 2026. Prof. Thaleia Dimitra Doudali served as Workshops co-Chair, alongside Christian Pinto, playing a key role in shaping the workshops program of the conference. In addition, Konstantinos Papaioannou and Giannis Roumpos were selected to serve on the Shadow Program Committee and the Artifact Evaluation Committee, supporting both the peer-review process and the experimental validation of the papers accepted into the main program of the conference.
Community and Collaboration
Beyond the technical program, EuroSys 2026 offered to the research group great opportunities for networking, mentoring, feedback and inspiring discussions. A particularly memorable moment occurred when Prof. Thaleia Dimitra Doudali was surprised by her students with a cake for her birthday during the conference. This meaningful gesture reflects the strong team spirit, collegial atmosphere, and mutual appreciation within the group. The participation of the IMDEA Software Institute at EuroSys 2026 highlights the institute’s continued contributions to cutting-edge systems research, as well as its strong commitment to service, mentorship, collaboration, and the people behind the research.
