PhD Student in Blockchain Security

Applications are invited for a PhD position at the IMDEA Software Institute, Madrid, Spain.

Selected candidates will work under the supervision of Juan Caballero.

The topic of the research is the development and testing of techniques to detect abusive transactions on a blockchain. Different blockchains may be considered such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tezos. The abusive transactions may be performed by the victim of an attack, an abusive user of the blockchain, or by malware that has infected a node. The malicious behavior may encompass from illegal virtual coin transactions up to abusive insertions on the blockchain, not authorized by the system owner.

The specific topic of the research will be determined based on the common interests of the candidate and the supervisor. Possible research directions include:

Ideal candidates have earned (or are in their last year of) a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering with experience in at least one of the following areas:

Solid programming skills will be highly valued. The position requires good teamwork and communication skills, including excellent spoken and written English.

Dates

The duration of the position is intended to be for the duration of the doctoral studies. The ideal starting period is September 1st, 2019.
