PhD in Analysis of iOS Mobile Applications

Applications are invited to apply for a PhD position in software engineering and security analysis at the IMDEA Software Institute, Madrid, Spain.

Selected candidates will work with Dr. Alessandra Gorla and Dr. Juan Caballero on the design, implementation, and evaluation of novel program analysis techniques for iOS mobile applications. The developed techniques will be applied to a variety of software engineering, cybersecurity, and privacy applications such as third party library detection, clone detection, code search, permission and API analysis, advertisement/tracking analysis, and vulnerability and malware analysis. The focus will be on program analysis techniques, although the research may also incorporate techniques from areas like Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Data Analytics.

The PhD research will involve a combination of data collection, data analysis, and prototype development.

Who should apply?

Ideal candidates have earned (or are in their last year of) a Master’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, have a strong commitment to research, are passionate about software engineering and computer security, enjoy coding, and have some experience and interest in at least one of the techniques and application areas described above.

Good programming and tool building skills are required. Good command of English both spoken and written is also required.

Dates

The position will cover the whole duration of the doctoral studies. The ideal starting period is October 2022 with some flexibility.
