Georgios Portokalidis Recognized as a Senior Member of ACM and IEEE

Georgios Portokalidis, Associate Research Professor at IMDEA Software, has been recognized as a Senior Member by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), two of the world’s leading professional organizations in computing and engineering.

This distinction, reserved for professionals with an established track record, requires demonstrating at least a decade of relevant experience, significant technical contributions, and sustained commitment to the scientific and professional community. In the case of Georgios Portokalidis, it highlights an outstanding career in the field of software and systems security.

Prior to joining IMDEA Software, Georgios Portokalidis developed his academic career at the Stevens Institute of Technology and has international experience as a visiting professor at the National University of Singapore. His research focuses on improving the security and resilience of complex software systems through the development of techniques for analyzing compiled programs and designing defense mechanisms that make the exploitation of vulnerabilities more difficult.

His contributions have been published in top-tier conferences such as USENIX Security, IEEE S&P, ACM CCS, and NDSS, and have received international recognition, including the Pwnie Award for Most Innovative Research at Black Hat 2021, as well as best paper awards at ACSAC and IWSEC. He is also co-author of a U.S. patent in the field of multi-service authentication.
