The IMDEA Software Institute (Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies in Software

Description
The IMDEA Software Institute is seeking a Distinguished Researcher to lead
the Institute’s cryptography research line. The candidate should have
demonstrated ability and commitment to research, an outstanding track record of
research in cryptography, recognized international stature in cryptography
research, and demonstrated leadership abilities. Candidates should posses a
doctoral degree in Computer Science or a closely related area and have
demonstrated the ability to build an independent research group, attract
research funding, and collaborate with well-established international
researchers. Applications will be evaluated by the hiring committee and
selected candidates will need the approval of the Institute’s Scientific
Advisory Board.
The tasks to be carried out will be, among others:
- Perform impactful research on cryptography to be published in top academic
venues in the field.
- Transfer research results to the industrial sector with an emphasis on
Spain and the Region of Madrid.
- Attract research funding through public grants and industrial
contracts.
- Represent the Institute in international committees such as program and
steering committees, editorial boards, …
- Advise PhD, MSc, and BSc theses.
- Collaborate in the management of the Institute.
Requirements
Candidates should meet the following requirements:
- Ph.D. in Computer Science or a highly related area.
- At least 5 years of research experience at a tenure-track Assistant Professor
(or equivalent) level.
- Co-authorship of research publications in prestigious international venues for
cryptography research, especially as first or corresponding author.
- High h-index and citation count. Average h-index and citation counts for
Associate Research Professors at the Institute is 20 and 1700, respectively,
according to Google Scholar.
- Well-established international reputation in cryptography, demonstrated by
having been a member of the Steering and Program Committees of top cryptography
international venues, as well as a track record of invited talks and seminars
at international institutions and events.
- Successful track record for attracting and being principal investigator of
publicly funded research grants.
- Successful track record for attracting and being principal investigator of
industrial contracts.
- Proven experience in building and managing a research group with multiple
students and/or post-doctoral researchers.
- Successful track record in innovation transfer demonstrable through patents,
trade secrets, popular open source tools developed, integration of research
results into commercial products, …
- Having directed/co-directed successfully defended Ph.D. theses.
- At least two years of research experience in an international research center
outside of Spain.
- Experience advising M.Sc. and B.Sc. theses.
- Fluent in English speaking, writing, and reading.
The following are desirable qualifications:
- Having obtained tenure after a tenure-track process in a recognized Institution.
- Experience coordinating multi-partner R&D funding projects.
- Experience managing industrial R&D contracts.
- Ability to meet strict deadlines and work under pressure.
- Capable team player.
