On July 3 and 4, 2026, the XII edition of the AdaByron programming contest was held at the Faculty of Computer Science of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
The national competition brought together the qualifiers from the regional phases held earlier this year, which saw the participation of a total of 315 teams from all autonomous communities. The final in Madrid was reached by 42 teams from 23 Spanish universities.
The IMDEA Software Research Institute participated once again as a sponsor, this time in the Silver category. On Friday, a few hours before the start of the event, attendees had the opportunity to visit the institute’s stand and chat with some of the researchers. Marco Ciccalè, Antonio José Fernández and Siva Maradana, PhD researchers at IMDEA Software, answered all their questions about pursuing a scientific career and encouraged them to continue studying after university. Meanwhile, Tania Carro and Cristina Martín were in charge of coordinating the meeting.
On Saturday, following an intense day of programming, the most anticipated moment arrived: the awards ceremony. Antonio Fernández Anta, Deputy Director of IMDEA Software, presented the runner-up prize for the fastest team in the competition to “El Zoo d’en Litus”, from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC).
The overall standings of the competition concluded with the following results:
· First prize: “El Zoo d’en Litus” (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) · Second prize: “Unió de Pitons Catalanes” (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) · Third prize: “#define int long long” (Universidad Complutense de Madrid)
At IMDEA Software we are committed to supporting this type of initiative, fostering healthy competition among students and developing constructive software learning. We hope to see you again next year.
